We want to take a moment to celebrate some true heroes among us: John, Kelly, and Sara.
While delivering Meals on Wheels in the Shadow Ranch Senior Mobile Home Park on December 12th, they encountered a life-threatening situation that called for quick thinking and courage.
As John, Kelly, and Sara were in the 500 block, they noticed smoke pouring from a carport. Elderly residents were shouting for help, saying a car was on fire, and someone was still inside.
Without hesitation, John sprang into action, informed Sara to drive the individuals in our DSA program out of danger, and then he headed to the car to assist the disoriented gentleman trapped inside. Kelly stayed calm under pressure, quickly calling 911 and bringing John a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames. Despite the smoke and danger, John pulled the gentleman from the vehicle to safety with the assistance of another passerby.
Thanks to their bravery, teamwork, and quick response, a potentially tragic situation was averted.
We are beyond grateful for their selflessness and heroism. Thank you, John, Kelly, Sara, and everyone involved, for showing what it means to go above and beyond to protect and care for others.
